The Spanish Articles

The articles are words that always accompany the nouns to determine their number and the gender. Unlike English, in Spanish an article always goes before a noun.

What is an Article?

Article is the word that goes before the name to determine it. In the Spanish language a noun must always be accompanied by its corresponding article. The graphic shows the articles in Spanish.

In the table below the definite article the is represented in Spanish by articles in the masculine and feminine gender in singular and plural numbers.

In Spanish every noun is accompanied by its corresponding article in contrast with the English language where it is not always necessary to write the article.

In Spanish the articles are classified into two main groups a) definitive article (artículo definido), b) indefinite article (artículo indefinido). You will learn about them in the next lesson .
